Munnar's Mount Carmel Church is the first Catholic church in the highlands. It's famous for being the setting for 'Life of Pi', the Hollywood blockbuster. Father Alphonse of the Spanish Missionaries founded this church in 1898. After his demise, his body was buried in the same church. This church is the prime spectator in the modernization of Munnar from a simple tea plantation estate to a well-known tourist destination in South India. The arrangement of the church amidst the snow-covered rolling hills is truly beautiful. You can witness the panoramic view of Munnar from these hills. The tranquillity of the church offers a mind refreshing holy atmosphere.
