Pazhassi Dam is a popular tourist destination. Named after the legendary King Pazhassi Raja, this dam is located 37 kms east of Kannur and was built across the Valapattanam River.
There is a beautiful garden adjacent to the dam that adds to the charm of the place. The DTPC has boating facilities, and boating is available here.
As part of the West flowing rivers from Tadri to Kanyakumari, the dam is built at Kuyiloor across the Bavali River. At 2,500 feet (760 m) in the Coorg region (in Karnataka), it rises and drains a catchment of 1,028 square kilometers (397 square miles). The catchment has a mean annual rainfall of 3,622 millimeters (142.6 inches). Mattanur and Iritty are the nearest towns to the dam site.
