Located on the side of the Brahmagiri hills in Wayanad, the Thirunelli Temple is a famous ancient temple throughout Kerala and other states of India. The temple is devoted to Lord Maha Vishnu. It is situated at an altitude of around 900 meters in a valley completely surrounded by mountains and forests.
Thirunelli is one of the most popular pilgrim centers in Wayanad and one of the most significant religious sites in South India. The name Thirunelli derives from the word nelli, meaning gooseberry.
Many legends are associated with this temple that are found in ancient Hindu mythology texts. The temple is also mentioned in Puranas.
