Kerala climate and seasons

The climate in Kerala is tropical and wet, with hot, humid summers and mild, wet monsoons and winters. The Western Ghats help to moderate the temperature, creating a hilly terrain and allowing for heavy rainfall during the monsoon season.

Kerala has a tropical climate with moderate temperatures throughout the year. Summer, monsoon, and winter are the three main seasons. Summers are hot and humid, monsoons are heavy, and winters are cool and mild.

During the monsoon season, Kerala gets heavy rain from the monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. Also, the Western Ghats help moderate the temperature by creating a hilly terrain.

The summer season in Kerala (March – May) is characterized by high temperatures and low rainfall. The monsoon winds from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal bring cooler temperatures and more rain. As a result of the Western Ghats, humidity from these monsoon winds is trapped, creating a cooler climate.

Kerala’s monsoon season starts in June and lasts until September, so the weather gets cooler and the rain gets heavier. As a barrier between the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, the Western Ghats trap moisture and create a cool climate.

The winter season in Kerala is cooler and more pleasant than in other parts of India because the Western Ghats block out the hot air from the north. The monsoon winds don’t come in, so a microclimate is created.
